My passion is fitness and health but I LOVE traveling to new places with my family.
I like to combine my two passions by walking and hiking where ever we travel, plus some workouts here and there.
Right now I’m writing this blog post sitting on the beach in Yatchas, Oregon. We are wrapping up our trip and have one last stop before we head home. Our daughter, Aspen is playing with Maddy and her dog. She just met them while exploring the beach. This very small coastal town is a gem, with several restaurants to eat at while enjoying the beautiful beach view. The beach area is huge with lots of space for the kids to play.
Why did we decide to travel up the Oregon Coast? We love beaches BUT I’m not a fan of tropical and HOT destinations. I don’t have fun being active in that kind of weather. I like wearing layers and being outdoors. I’ll admit it, lots of sweating is not my thing!
September is my wife and daughters birthday month so we headed up the coast to Oregon. Our first stop was Arcata, California. I literally lost count of how many beaches we went to as we traveled up to Astoria, Oregon. Astoria is the tip top of the Oregon coast where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. During our trip we walked through coastal towns, hiked the forest, and walked the beach. I carried my bands to workout with, I ended up using them twice during the trip, there’s nothing quite like exercising while looking at the beautiful beach.
When we take trips I’m on it about being organized and knowing where we are going and what we are going to see, but I think I was the most spontaneous I have ever been during this trip. We made several stops along the drive at view points and beaches. There were so many places to see along the 101.
What stood out on this trip other than beaches? The short list; Fort Stevens, zip lining, hiking in Arcata Community Forest, and driving up and down the 101 it was breathtaking. If you haven’t already considered adding it to your bucket list, I highly recommend it!
Take a look at where we stayed and what we did before you head up the Oregon Coast! Our favorite towns in Oregon were Astoria and Florence.
